Adding a project

Lesson 9 of 11 · 2 min 25 s. Episode 9 of the Jaah tutorial series: add a project agents can work in safely. Connect a repository and pick the machine its work runs on, set the branch agents deliver into and the checks every change must pass, say who works in it, and have the Onboarding engineer get the repository ready for agents.

Before you start

  • The address of the repository the project works in. In the video, TimeSaver (a time-tracking app for small teams) adds Invoicing on its own app repository.
  • A machine already listed on Nodes, where the project's work will run.
  • A group of the people who will work in the project, like the TimeSaver developers group.

Steps

  1. Open Directory in the sidebar and go to the Projects tab. Each project is a repository your agents work in, with your team's rules for it.
  2. Press Add project. Under Name, name it the way the team will say it. Under Repo URL, give it the repository's address. Under Node, pick the machine its work will run on. The project gets two places to work there, so two of its tasks can run at once.
  3. Go to Governance. Integration branch is where agents start from and deliver into. Push enabled is ticked, so agents can deliver their changes. The two gate commands are the checks every change must pass: type the quick check into Quick gate command and the full check into Full gate command. The quick one runs while the agent works, the full one before it hands the change over. Press Save.
  4. On the new project's Access tab, press Add. Under Who, pick the group that works in it, and leave the role at Project Developer, so they can file and follow the project's tasks. Press Add. Everyone in the group now has the project in their console.
  5. From the project's Tasks, file a task: Get this repository ready for agents to work in. Under Advanced, set Persona to Onboarding engineer, choose Unattended, and press Go. The Onboarding engineer writes down the instructions agents read first and the rules they follow, when the repository lacks them.
  6. When the task has finished, open it and go to Details. Under Outcome, the Onboarding engineer says what it found and what it changed.

What you learned

  • Projects live under Directory. Each one is a repository your agents work in, with your team's rules for it.
  • The integration branch is where agents start from and deliver into. The two gate commands are the checks every change must pass.
  • Access is given on the project's Access tab, to a group with a role.
  • The Onboarding engineer gets a repository ready for agents to work in, and its Outcome on Details says what it changed.
