Run, pause or change an automation
Once an automation exists, you manage it from its own page. Open it from the sidebar: select Automation, then the automation's row on the Automations tab. Narrow the list with Search, When (Schedule or Event) and Status.
Who can do this: Automations are shown only to Owners and Admins of your organization.
Run it now
- Open the automation.
- Select Run now at the top right.
- Read the message that appears, then find the run at the top of Runs a few seconds later.
- Open the task it filed from the run, or from the board, as with any other task.
For a schedule, Run now runs every target as a scheduled run would, and skips the same ones. For an event, it files as if an empty event arrived, within its Limits: a target may wait as Queued, and it counts toward Rate limit per hour. Run now is unavailable while the automation is paused: select Resume first.
Pause it
- Open the automation.
- Select Pause at the top right. The status beside the name changes to Paused.
- To start it again, select Resume.
A paused automation runs nothing, but it keeps its settings and its runs. An event that arrives while it is paused is recorded as skipped.
Change what, when or where it runs
- Open the automation.
- Change Name or Description under About.
- To change when it runs, select Edit on the Schedule line, change it, and select Done.
- To change where, use Target. See Choose what an automation runs on.
- Change the task under Action.
- Select Save. Cancel puts back what was saved.
You can switch an event automation to Schedule, but not to another event source. If you leave the page with unsaved changes, it asks you first.
Read its runs
- Open the automation and find Runs, newest at the top. Select Load more for older ones.
- Read each run's line: when, why it ran (Schedule tick, Event delivery or Run now), and what it did, such as 1 filed · 1 skipped: previous still open.
- Select a run to open it. Under Targets, the outcomes are grouped with what needs attention first: Error, Skipped, Not reached, Queued, then Filed. Expand a group to see each project or node and why.
- Select a filed target's task number to open its task. A run that filed one task also shows Open task at the top.
What each outcome means is in How automations work.
Delete it
- Open the automation and select Delete at the top right.
- Read the confirmation: it stops running (for an event, its address stops accepting events), and its run history is deleted. Filed tasks stay.
- Select Delete automation to confirm.
To stop an automation for a while, pause it instead.
