Run a playbook on a task
A playbook is your own sequence of stages, each run by a persona. Running one on a task gives the work the shape your team has agreed: for example a fix, then a review. You pick the playbook when you start the task.
Before you start: the Playbook button appears on the new task form only when your organization's Playbooks setting is on (New tasks can run one of your playbooks.). Someone who can change your organization's Settings turns it on there. You also need a playbook of your own: see Create a playbook. The four built-in playbooks aren't offered here.
Start the task
- On the board, select +. The new task opens beside the board.
- In the description box, describe the work, as for any task.
- Among the size buttons, select Playbook. Its hint reads Playbook — run one of your playbooks.
- In the menu that opens, pick your playbook. Each one shows its name and description.
- Choose Unattended or Guided among the involvement buttons.
- Select Go. The task is saved and started, and the playbook's stages run in order.
A playbook that can't run yet is shown greyed out, with the reason under its name. If you have no playbook, the menu says No playbooks yet and offers Create one, which opens the Playbooks tab.
Once the task is saved, its playbook can't be changed: the button says Playbook is fixed after save. To use another playbook, start a new task and pick it there.
Follow it
Each stage of the playbook runs as the persona its stage names. Follow the task on the board as any other: see Answer a task's question when a stage asks you something, and Read a task's result when it's done.
